Fajr int’l filmfest to display Iran classic ‘House of God’

A modified version of Jalal Moqaddam’s ‘House of God’ is to be screened at the Fajr Int’l Filmfest.

A modified version of Jalal Moqaddam’s ‘House of God’ is to be screened at the 35th Fajr International Film Festival.

Made in 1966, the movie is on the issue of the Hajj pilgrimage and the rituals performed by Muslims in Mecca.

Moqaddam (1929-1996) was an actor, writer and director. He wrote the script for seven films, directed eight and played in 17 movies, including Ali Hatami’s ‘The Love Stricken’ (1992), Masoud Kimiai’s ‘Snake Fang’ (1990) and ‘The Lead’ (1988).

Fajr Festivals are held annually in Iran during the Fajr Decade (literally meaning ten days of dawn), which marks the anniversary of the ten days from the return of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, to Iran (February 1) until the victory day of the Islamic Revolution (February 11) in 1979.

Established in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema. This year, the international version is being held about one month after the domestic version.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the Fajr festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.
